Camps
How They Work
Towny Camps are a quick way for new players to get temporary protection while they decide what to do next.
A Camp lasts 24 hours and is meant to protect your starter bits until you:
- Create your own Town, or
- Join an established Town
What is a Camp?
A Camp is a 1-chunk protected area created using a Campfire.
It’s perfect for:
- A bed
- A starter shelter
- A couple of chests
- Basic farms/workstations
- Keeping your loot safe while you get set up
How long does a Camp last?
- 24 hours
- After 24 hours, the Camp expires and the protection ends
So don’t treat it like a permanent base - it’s a stepping stone until you get enough gold to make a town.
How to set up a Camp (Campfire)
Step 1 - Get your Campfire
You already get a Campfire with your /kit starter.
Run:
/kit starter
Step 2 - Choose your location carefully
Because it’s only one chunk, pick a spot you’re happy using for your first day:
- Not right next to other players/towns
- Near trees/food/stone
- Somewhere you can build compactly
If you can’t place it, you’re probably too close to a claim/town or in a restricted area.
Step 3 - Place the Campfire
Place the Campfire where you want your Camp.
That Campfire will protect 1 chunk for 24 hours.
Step 4 - Keep everything inside the chunk
To stay protected:
- Put chests, beds, and valuables inside the chunk
- Build compact - one chunk fills fast
- If you’re unsure where the chunk border is, then toggle F3 + G
What you should do during your 24 hours
Use the Camp time to:
- Get a shelter + storage down immediately
- Gather resources and gold (you need 64 gold ingots for a town)
- Scout a proper town location
- Decide whether you’re making a town or joining one
When your Camp expires
After 24 hours:
- Your camp ends
- That chunk is no longer protected by your camp
Make sure you’re moving into a town before the timer runs out.
